Many writers have pledged their hearts to Provence; think of Mistral, Giono, Pagnol and Daudet. Well-known painters have tried to catch the light; you only have to look at a painting of van Gogh or Cezanne.

In cities such as Aix en Provence, Avignon, Orange and Marseille there are numberless museums and ancient buildings. The route “Napoleon”, the various castles and fortresses, small picturesque villages with winding streets, abbeys, monasteries and churches – they all refer to the rich history of this region.

 The famous piano festival in La Roque-Antheron, the street theatre in Avignon, the medieval village festivals – there are too many to mention and they are all worth a visit to experience the atmosphere yourself.
